Evergreen Manor All American Festival


On July 10 I made an appearance at the Evergreen Manor All American Festival at the Evergreen Manor Girl Scout Troop table. I had a great time and it was a fun appearance. Here are some pictures from the event.

America's Miss 2009 National Pageant

On Saturday, July 4 at the Hilton Baltimore BWI in Linthicum, MD I placed 2nd runner-up at the America’s Miss 2009 National Pageant. I also received Top 3 in Academic Achievement. Before the pageant Saturday evening, along with the contestants, we went to Inner Harbor for Ride the Ducks tour and lunch at Phillips Seafood Buffet. Then we went to dinner at Medieval Times. Our Red Knight won the tournament. Yay! The pageant weekend was a great expereince and I had a great time getting to know all the girls. You all are fabulous!!!

Local Women Selected to Compete at National Pageant in July


Amber Smith of Altoona, Pennsylvania was recently selected America’s Miss Pennsylvania 2009. She will join state delegates from across the United State in Baltimore, Maryland to compete for the title of America’s Miss 2009. The National Pageant will be held July 1 – 4, 2009 in the Thurgood Marshall Ballroom of the Hilton Baltimore BWI in Linthicum.
With her state title, Amber, will represent Pennsylvania during her year of reign, making appearances throughout the state.


In addition to competing for the national title, Amber will also have the opportunity to win community service, academic achievement, photogenic and Miss Congeniality Awards. The winner will receive a scholarship, national appearance contract, thousands of dollars in prizes, become the national spokesperson for America’s Miss Scholarship Pageants, and will be recognized in national advertising.


Amber is a 2007 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications, and 2003 graduate of Altoona Area High School and the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center.


Amber is the Color Guard advisor for the Altoona Area High School Marching Band, a member of the Penn State Alumni Association, the Altoona Area High School Alumni Association, and the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America – Jobel Court No. 11. While at Penn State Amber was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa: National Leadership Honor Society, where she served as president of the Penn State Altoona Circle her senior year, a member of Lion Ambassadors, and received the honor of being selected for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges.


Amber’s platform is the American Heart Association – Go Red for Women. She had been promoting Go Red for Women for four years through various activities and fundraising events. Along with Go Red, Amber has worked with Toys for Tots, the American Cancer Society, the Central PA Humane Society, and the MS Society.
Since 2003 America’s Miss Scholarship Pageants has recognized and encouraged young women to strive for higher education and to serve as positive role models in their communities. The reigning America’s Miss 2008 is Chelsea Belanger of San Antonio, Texas is promoting Special Olympics. The scholarship pageant if open to teens 13 – 18 and young women 19 – 26 years of age.
